Why We Make Our Own Argan Oil – The Story Behind Yasmin's Argan
There was a moment when everything changed.
I was sitting on the couch, with the television on, when an advertisement came on from a major brand that proudly announced: “Now with Moroccan argan oil.”
To many people, that might have just been an advertisement, but to me, it felt… well, almost personal. Because argan oil is something I grew up with. My mother made it herself, using nuts from southern Morocco, with patience, love, and knowledge passed down through generations.
What I saw in that commercial bore no resemblance to anything I knew. No women in traditional dress gathering the nuts. No stone mills from southern Morocco grinding the almonds. No scent of freshly pressed oil. Just a luxurious, shiny bottle.
That's when I knew: this story needs to be told. This is ours. Not from those big multinationals trying to cash in, without sharing the story and culture.
Why we make it ourselves
I've consciously chosen not to import ready-made oil. Our nuts come directly from southern Morocco, from women who harvest and crack them by hand. We then press the oil here in the Netherlands, with respect for the product. This way, I know it's 100% pure , free of additives or additives.
A piece of culture in every drop
For me, argan oil is more than just a product. It's a piece of culture, an experience. Just like bread from a brick oven or olive oil from your own orchard. It's the smell of home, the sound of nuts being cracked, the feeling of togetherness. And I want to share that with you—in a bottle, in a jar of Amlou, in everything I make.
Honest, artisanal and transparent
Argan oil is often tampered with. Mixtures, cheap imitations... and most people have no idea. That's why I'm open about my process. Where the nuts come from, how they're processed, and why my products combine true South Moroccan craftsmanship with Dutch freshness.
This is why Yasmins Argan exists: to show that you can choose quality, honesty and tradition.
